Shark Island Documentary Fund:

The Shark Island Documentary Fund is a division of Shark Island Productions and was established in 2005 to promote, support and highlight the importance of documentaries in the Australian community.

We believe documentaries play an important role in the development of a vibrant culture and a tolerant and healthy society. We acknowledge the vital part they play in the Arts as well as valuing their educational and historical qualities. We recognize their ability to tell stories that would otherwise go untold.

The Shark Island Documentary Fund will endeavour to support films that have a positive and inclusive impact on society and the communities in which we live.

We aim to support documentaries that have a clearly defined target audience at either the national or local community level. Therefore we support both broadcast and non-broadcast documentary filmmaking.

We are looking for works that showcase a range of perspectives, opinions and experiences and will be attracted to filmmakers and stories that may be overlooked by broadcasters and the traditional funding bodies.

We are looking for high quality documentary filmmaking and great stories that both engage and entertain their audience.

We believe that documentaries can be both entertaining and effective and will be attracted to those ideas which aim to raise awareness of an issue and to maximize their impact with the addition of an effective outreach and education strategy.
