The Shark Island Documentary Fund created and funded DOCUMENTARY AUSTRALIA FOUNDATION (DAF) in 2007. The objective of DAF is to encourage and enable grant-making by private foundations, individual and corporate donors to documentaries, and thus ultimately to create an additional funding model for documentaries in Australia.

The Shark Island Documentary Fund, in conjunction with the Caledonia Foundation, has provided a five year operational grant to DAF, ensuring that 100% of all grants are passed through to the documentary filmmaker.
